"Critically assess and evaluate resources for best practice in online learning"
My OLTD 505
summary of learning was my first ever Prezi attempt. With this, it was also one of the few times that I have put my voice to something that I was publically sharing. This is a presentation tool similar to powerpoint but much more eye catching and fairly easy to work with, even embedding my voice using Audacity files was very straight forward.
The prezi mostly outlines OERs and MOOCs as that was the focus of this course. I have also rated some OER and MOOC websites and those ratings can be found on my blog post at: http://breanneqlearnsonline.weebly.com/10/post/2013/06/the-summary-of-my-learning-in-oltd-505.html. Through the 505 course, I learned that there are many OER and MOOC websites out there and not all are created equal. There are some that I have taken a look at and I really did not like the premise behind them (not as ‘open’ as I would have liked) and some that I have looked at and will go back to many more times. This hopefully will be something that other educators can take something from and use in their own classrooms without having to do a bunch of searching, as I have done a lot of investigating myself.
When looking for resources to use with your students, I have found that it is very important to look over the resources yourself. A few times while looking through OER resources, I found a video with a title that I thought would help my students greatly only to click on it and find out it was in Arabic, which would not benefit any of my learners. I have compiled a section of resources in my Canvas classroom after looking through many resources online, and I am sure that the collection will grow but I can also be sure that I will go through the entire resource first to make sure it is not a waste of my student’s time.

"Scaffold digital citizenship from K-12 to professional
level of educators"
My evidence for this piece is my blog replies to my peers and the tweets that I put out relating to our OLTD 505 course and our program as a whole. I have tweeted many things and I will continue to tweet many more things but I decided just to focus on the tweets during our time in 505. These tweets and blog posts related to not only OERs and MOOCs but also to emerging ideas and theories in the education world.
While reading other people’s posts and responding to them, I was made aware of different points of view. Reading someone’s post allowed me to have a better idea about a certain topic that maybe I didn’t have the time during the course to check out as in depth as the other person did or as much as I would have liked to. I know that when people replied to my post it made me think about things in another way and they linked and suggested things that I might want to check out and I tried to do that as much as possible with my replies as well. Some of my replies were about professional learning resources or ideas while others pertained to the use with the person’s class. My tweets were about a variety of topics from interesting websites that can be used with students to good reads concerning MOOCs, OERs and other things.
Scaffolding digital citizenship is important because we should all be able to build off one another. If someone has a great idea but they do not share it, that idea is lost in a way. I am wanting to use blogs with my students in the coming years and it is my hope that they will read some posts by their peers and comment on them to create a better community of learners between them.
